Custom email domains

What is a custom email domain?

Custom email domains enable you to send 1000s of bulk emails at a time, and set up custom email addresses like with a custom From Name, From Email, and Reply to Email, for example "[email protected]"

Set up process

In order to create a custom domain, and start sending emails, you will want to set up your domain records.

Rally sends email on your behalf, using our IP addresses. That means you get the benefit our shared IP reputation combined with the verified checkmarks in the inbox that shows you’re sending from your domain.

Here’s how to set it up in just a few steps.

  • Step 1: Navigate to your domain settings page

  • Step 2: Enter in your domain or subdomain that you want to send emails from. For example, for Rally it could be [rallyuxr.com](http://rallyuxr.com) or [research-email.rallyuxr.com](http://research-email.rallyuxr.com) . After adding your domain, you’ll see rows for DKIM and Return-Path records with predefined hostnames, type, and values. You’ll use these records in the next step

  • Step 3: Add the generated records to your DNS
To verify your domain ownership and improve deliverability, you need to add both the DKIM and Return-Path records to your DNS records.
DKIM records are added to your DNS as a TXT record and Return-Path records are added as CNAME records. Usually your DNS is managed by your hosting provider, so you would want to head there to add these records. This is not always the case, however. If you are using a DNS provider, such as DNSimple, you would need to add your DKIM and Return-Path records there instead of with your hosting provider.
Once you have the DKIM and/or return-path records generated with your mail provider, below are some links to instructions provided by our email provider Postmark on how to add DNS records for common hosts and DNS providers.

  • Step 4: Verify your records are set up correctly

    • After you have copied and pasted your records into your domain registrar, you can click “Verify” in the domains setting page in Rally.
    • Notice the “Verified” in green next to each record section.
    • If that didn’t work, check back in an hour or so. Occasionally records take longer to propagate.
